Understand Your Risk of Heart Attack
Heart Attack Facts
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. The toll on families and the loved ones of those that suffer a heart attack is tremendous. The latest advances in medical imaging, coronary tomography angiography CTA specifically, can help determine your risk.

What Is a Cardiac CTA?
Coronary Tomography Angiography (CTA) is used to produce a detailed picture of the heart and the blood vessels. A cardiac CTA is a noninvasive imaging study to look at both the inside and outside of your coronary arteries. CTA utilizes x-rays to look at your coronary arteries and is one of the most vital ways to assess your current or future chances of having a heart attack. The radiologist will inject a small amount of contrast in your arm to make your arteries visible during the procedure. This contrast will be expelled from your system within a few hours. You should get an order with appropriate labs from your physician prior to the study.
CTA allows your physician to see whether or not plaque has developed in the coronary arteries that may result in “blockages” that might cause symptoms or increase your risk of a future heart attack. CTA is able to find both severe blockages, as well as help identify plaque build-up in the coronary arteries that may not be causing an immediate issue, but may lead to heart problems in the future.
